The Nine Core Values Have Impact

Categories: 2018, December, Newsletter

The First Tee established The Nine Core Values because they represent some of the many inherently positive values connected with the game of golf. In open-ended, unaided essays 85% of the program participants articulated that they take personal ownership of The Nine Core Values of The First Tee. Participants are introduced to The Nine Core Values: Honesty, Integrity, Responsibility, Respect, Courtesy, Sportsmanship, Judgment, Perseverance, and Confidence throughout the 5 levels of our program. The feedback from this study reinforces that our curriculum is providing the right foundation to truly impact our participants. Parents are also encouraged to reinforce these behaviors by talking about them, what they mean and what these behaviors can look like at home.

In this same essay project, 87% articulated that they had an improved sense of empowerment because of their involvement with The First Tee.

A few noteworthy responses included:
“Game me greater sense of confidence.”
“Taught me perseverance…to never give up.”
“I’ve become a leader.”
“I’m able to confidently speak in front of groups.
“I’m more goal oriented.”

Additionally, we learned, 81% had demonstrable self-improvement and personal transformation due their involvement in The First Tee.

A few noteworthy responses included:
“I’m better able to manage my time.”
“I have the courage to do things that I wouldn’t do before.”
“My grades have improved.”
“I’m making better decisions.”
“I’ve become a better version of myself.”

Consider registering your child in a class, becoming a volunteer or supporting our non-profit youth development organization to help us continue our mission of teaching The Nine Core Values to the youth in our community.
